Consultation Services for Waterloo Region

clinical consulTation

Clinical consultation can be beneficial to therapists when something is out of their scope of practice, when integrating a new therapeutic approach, or simply when they feel stuck with a particular case. I offer consultations to other therapists in the Waterloo Region who are seeking additional support either in private practice or within the non-profit sector.

I have been in the field for 17 years and have worked in the areas of addictions, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and mental health. I have an MSW from Wilfrid Laurier University and have continued to engage in extensive training and education throughout my career.

Possible concerns you can address in clinical consultation can include, but are not limited to:

  • Assistance/direction with particular cases

  • Countertransference

  • Vicarious trauma

  • Treatment planning

  • Development of coping strategies

  • Integrating trauma-informed practices

  • Recent graduates of social work

  • Starting your own private practice

Therapists are humans too, which means that we come with our own set of issues and unresolved past experiences. I am a big believer in doing the very work that we ask our clients to do and consider it an ethical obligation to ensure that we are at our best when supporting others. Therefore, I integrate use of self into my consultations and shine a light on issues that should possibly be addressed and may be affecting your work. However, please note that it is not my role as a consultant to provide therapeutic support; therefore, I would refer you to another counsellor to do this type of work.
